Blogger, TypePad & WordPress Review… Part 2 of 4

by Brian on February 10, 2010

Today is Part 2 of the Blogger, TyePad & WordPress Review. Friday we’ll be giving our opinion of which blogging platform we feel is the best.

The Best Blogs are Typepad blogs

If you notice, this is a TypePad blog. In fact, we host all of our blogs on TypePad.

TypePad Pro is a paid blogging platform owned by Six Apart. TypePad Pro has hosting plans ranging from $8.95 per month to $89.95 per month.

TypePad also recently launched a free blogging platform called TypePad Micro (likely to compete against the Blogger platform) that offers limited features, but we’re going to focus on TypePad Pro in this review.

Using the $8.95 plan and up, you can upload video and audio, control outbound links on your blog and broadcast to and track your readers on FeedBurner. You can easily connect to your social network profiles and choose from over 3,000 customizable themes.

The Positives of TypePad Pro:

  • TypePad Pro allows you to include ads from any ad network you choose, regardless if it’s AdSense, ClickBank or any other affiliate program you are promoting.
  • It’s very easy for anyone to use. You don’t need any technical knowledge to make a professional looking blog.
  • It’s easy to connect to your Social Network Profiles.
  • We’ve never had a problem with Spam.
  • There’s great support when you need it, from real people. Because you pay for TypePad, they service you, not advertisers.
  • There are tons of themes available, and you can customize them a lot.
  • There are some good plug-ins available.
  • You can have multiple authors contributing to your blog.
  • If you have more than one blog, you can control them all from a single dashboard.

I don’t want to sound too “hoorah” for TypePad… It does have its downsides…

  • Even though plans start at $8.95 per month, the optimal plan for most people is the $14.95 per month Unlimited plan.
  • It’s easy to tweak and change things around, but when it comes right down to it… If you want to heavily customize TypePad, there’s a lot that goes into it.
  • There are a lot of plug-ins that are not available for TypePad. What that means is that it’s starting to fall behind in the times.

TypePad Pro is a good all around blogging platform. It’s ease of use for most things is outstanding… I’m glad we’ve used TypePad for all of our blogs… it’s helped make us a quite a bit of cash.

If you are new to blogging and the Internet, I’d highly recommend checking out TypePad.
